Why is driving distance important?
Your annual driving distance directly affects how much fuel or electricity your vehicle is expected to use.
Use this if you know approximately how many kilometres or miles you drive each day.
Use this if you normally track your driving on a monthly basis. The calculator multiplies the figure by 12.
Use this if you already know your approximate annual driving distance.
If you drive 1,000 km per month, the calculator uses approximately 12,000 km as your annual distance.

Understanding vehicle efficiency
Different vehicles and markets use different ways to measure fuel or electricity efficiency.
Kilometres per litre. A higher number generally means better fuel efficiency.
Litres required to travel 100 kilometres. A lower number generally means better efficiency.
Miles per gallon. US and UK MPG use different gallon sizes.
Kilometres travelled using one kWh of electricity. A higher number generally means better EV efficiency.
Electricity used to travel 100 kilometres. A lower number generally means better efficiency.
Fuel & Energy Price
Enter the local price you currently pay for fuel or electricity.
Why does the local energy price matter?
Your fuel or electricity price is multiplied by the amount of energy your vehicle is expected to use. A higher energy price therefore increases the running cost.

Enter the price you pay per kilogram of CNG.
Enter the electricity price you pay per kWh.
Use the price you actually pay locally rather than an old or national average price when you want a more useful estimate.
Hybrid Energy Use
Enter the fuel and electric details used by your hybrid vehicle.
How is hybrid running cost estimated?
A hybrid can use both fuel and electricity. The calculator divides your annual driving distance between the two energy sources using your estimated electric driving share.
If you drive 12,000 km per year and enter 40% electric driving, approximately 4,800 km is treated as electric driving and 7,200 km as fuel driving.
Your actual electric driving share can vary depending on the vehicle, battery, charging habits, traffic, driving style, and route.
Recurring Vehicle Costs
Add other costs you regularly pay to operate your vehicle.
These costs help make the estimate more realistic.
Fuel or electricity is not the only expense involved in operating a vehicle. Adding your regular costs can give you a broader estimate of ownership and running expenses.
Include routine servicing, repairs, fluids, and other maintenance expenses.
