Safety Guidelines for Self-Drive Car Rentals | Ride And Tech

Drive Safe with Ride And Tech

At Ride And Tech, safety is a shared responsibility. Our self-drive rental platform connects customers with vehicle providers, and we encourage every user to operate vehicles responsibly, lawfully and with appropriate care.

These safety guidelines are intended to help customers have a safer and smoother rental experience. They should be read together with our Terms of Service, vehicle-specific instructions, applicable traffic laws and any instructions provided by the vehicle owner or relevant authorities.

1. Before Starting Your Trip

Before driving a rented vehicle, take a few moments to make sure you are ready and the vehicle is suitable for the journey.

Customers should:

  • Check the vehicle for any visible damage before starting the trip.
  • Confirm that the vehicle's fuel or battery level is appropriate for the journey.
  • Adjust the driver's seat, mirrors and steering position before moving.
  • Make sure all occupants are wearing seatbelts where applicable.
  • Check for warning lights or obvious vehicle issues.
  • Familiarize yourself with the basic controls before driving.
  • Ensure you have the required driving documents and vehicle-related documents where applicable.
  • Report any significant existing damage or safety concern to the Provider before starting the trip.

If you believe a vehicle is unsafe to operate, do not continue driving it. Contact the Provider and, where necessary, Ride And Tech support.

2. General Driving Safety

Customers are expected to operate rented vehicles carefully and responsibly.

Always:

  • Follow applicable traffic laws and road signs.
  • Stay within posted speed limits.
  • Wear seatbelts and ensure passengers do the same.
  • Maintain a safe following distance.
  • Stay alert and maintain control of the vehicle.
  • Use indicators and headlights appropriately.
  • Adjust your driving to road and weather conditions.
  • Keep sufficient attention on the road and surrounding traffic.

Avoid aggressive driving, unnecessary sudden manoeuvres and behaviour that could put yourself, passengers or other road users at risk.

3. Zero Tolerance for Unsafe Driving

For the safety of everyone on the road, customers must not:

  • Drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Drive while significantly impaired by medication or another substance.
  • Allow an unauthorized person to drive the rented vehicle.
  • Use a mobile phone in a manner that distracts from driving or violates applicable law.
  • Drive when excessively tired or unable to operate the vehicle safely.
  • Use the vehicle for racing, reckless driving or other prohibited activities.
  • Use the vehicle for illegal activities.
  • Tamper with vehicle safety, tracking or other systems.

Violation of these requirements may result in action under the Ride And Tech Terms of Service, including suspension or termination of an account where applicable.

4. Night and Long-Distance Driving

Long journeys require additional attention and preparation.

For longer trips:

  • Take regular breaks and avoid driving continuously when fatigued.
  • Plan fuel or charging stops in advance.
  • Check weather and road conditions before travelling.
  • Use headlights appropriately, particularly in low-visibility conditions.
  • Reduce speed when visibility or road conditions deteriorate.
  • Avoid driving when you are too tired to remain alert.
  • Stop at a safe location if you feel unable to continue driving safely.

As a general safety practice, consider taking a break approximately every 2–3 hours, depending on your condition, road conditions and journey requirements.

5. Rain, Fog and Difficult Weather

Weather can significantly affect visibility, braking and vehicle control.

During rain, fog or other difficult conditions:

  • Reduce your speed.
  • Increase the distance between your vehicle and other road users.
  • Use headlights appropriately.
  • Avoid sudden braking or steering movements.
  • Use windscreen wipers and defogging functions when necessary.
  • Avoid flooded roads where the depth or condition cannot be safely assessed.
  • Do not attempt to cross dangerous or rapidly rising water.
  • Use hazard warning lights only when permitted and appropriate.

If conditions become unsafe, find a suitable safe location and stop until it is reasonably safe to continue.

6. Parking Safety

When parking a rented vehicle:

  • Use permitted and legally designated parking areas.
  • Follow local parking restrictions and signs.
  • Engage the parking brake properly.
  • Secure the vehicle before leaving it.
  • Lock the vehicle and close all windows.
  • Avoid leaving valuables or personal belongings visible inside.
  • Take additional care when parking on slopes or uneven surfaces.
  • Avoid locations that may expose the vehicle to unnecessary damage or flooding.

Customers are responsible for complying with applicable parking rules and may be responsible for parking violations or related charges in accordance with the rental agreement and Ride And Tech's applicable policies.

7. Vehicle Breakdown or Mechanical Problem

If the rented vehicle develops a mechanical problem or appears unsafe while you are driving:

  1. Reduce speed and move to a safe location where possible.
  2. Switch on hazard warning lights when appropriate.
  3. Stop the vehicle safely and secure it.
  4. Contact the Provider as soon as reasonably possible.
  5. Contact Ride And Tech support where assistance is required.
  6. Follow instructions provided by the Provider or appropriate assistance service.
  7. Do not attempt repairs that could create additional safety risks or vehicle damage.

If the vehicle is in a dangerous location, prioritize moving yourself and passengers to a safe place when it is reasonably possible to do so.

8. What to Do in an Accident

If an accident occurs during a rental:

  1. Stop the vehicle safely.
  2. Check whether anyone requires immediate medical assistance.
  3. Contact emergency services if there are injuries or an immediate safety risk.
  4. Move to a safe location when it is safe and legally permitted to do so.
  5. Inform the Provider as soon as reasonably possible.
  6. Contact Ride And Tech support and report the incident.
  7. Cooperate with police, emergency services and other relevant authorities where required.
  8. Where it is safe to do so, document relevant vehicle damage and the circumstances of the incident.
  9. Do not admit liability or make arrangements that conflict with applicable insurance or legal requirements without appropriate guidance.

Customers should remain at the scene when required by applicable law and should follow instructions from the relevant authorities.

9. Emergency Situations

In an emergency, personal safety should always come first.

Depending on the situation:

  • Stop in a safe location.
  • Turn on hazard warning lights where appropriate.
  • Move yourself and passengers away from immediate danger when reasonably possible.
  • Contact the appropriate emergency services.
  • Inform the Provider.
  • Contact Ride And Tech support when assistance is required.

For emergencies requiring immediate assistance, customers should contact the relevant local emergency services rather than waiting for Ride And Tech support.

Customers are expected to treat rented vehicles responsibly.

Please:

  • Operate the vehicle according to its intended use.
  • Follow the vehicle manufacturer's basic operating instructions.
  • Avoid unnecessary harsh acceleration, braking or driving.
  • Do not tamper with safety, tracking or vehicle systems.
  • Do not make unauthorized modifications.
  • Keep the vehicle reasonably clean and free from avoidable damage.
  • Return the vehicle according to the agreed rental conditions.

Damage caused by misuse, negligence or prohibited activities may be handled according to the Terms of Service, rental agreement and applicable policies.

11. Safe Driving Is the Customer's Responsibility

Ride And Tech provides a platform that facilitates vehicle rentals between customers and vehicle providers. Customers remain responsible for their own driving behaviour and compliance with applicable laws during the rental.

Customers are responsible for:

  • Operating the vehicle safely.
  • Following traffic laws.
  • Using the vehicle only for permitted purposes.
  • Ensuring that only authorized drivers operate the vehicle.
  • Taking reasonable care of the rented vehicle.
  • Paying applicable traffic fines or other charges arising from their use of the vehicle, where applicable.
  • Reporting accidents, significant damage or safety concerns promptly.

Following these guidelines can help reduce avoidable accidents, traffic violations, vehicle damage and disputes during a rental.

12. Important Safety Notice

These guidelines are intended to promote responsible and safe vehicle use. They do not replace applicable traffic laws, insurance requirements, vehicle manuals, rental agreements or instructions from emergency authorities.

Vehicle specifications, operating procedures and safety requirements can vary between vehicles. Customers should always follow the vehicle manufacturer's instructions and applicable legal requirements.

Ride And Tech cannot guarantee that every risk associated with driving or vehicle rental can be eliminated. Safe driving requires continuous attention, responsible decision-making and compliance with applicable laws.
